III Hemerocallis Club Meeting

III spotkanie

Two years after the meeting in Łódź, the third meeting of the Hemerocallis Club members took place, this time at the Forestry Experimental Station of SGGW in Rogów. Thanks to the efforts of the Club’s President, Jerzy Bodalski, the meeting was integrated into the Polish edition of the international program “Fascination of Plants Day”. On May 16 – 17, the SGGW Arboretum hosted the Club, and the participants were welcomed by its Director, Piotr Banaszczak.

On the first day, as part of the Conference “Progress in Breeding Polish Daylily Varieties”, the following papers were presented:

     

  • Emil Gwizdała: “Progress in diploid daylily breeding”

  • Jerzy Bodalski: “The anatomy of progress in daylily breeding”

  • Artur Jasiński: “Non-standard methods of introducing progress in daylily breeding”

    •  

  • Tadeusz Kosmus: “Proposal for the intensification of fertilization, protection, and pollination stimulation in daylily breeding”

    •  

  • Michał Jadczyk: “Poland’s place in daylily organizations worldwide”

    •  

  • Andrzej Celichowski: “The procedure for registering daylilies with the American Hemerocallis Society”

Following the discussion on the presentations, at the end of the day, the participants gathered for a gala dinner in the beautifully decorated restaurant halls of SGGW. There was no end to the conversations, discussions, sharing of personal experiences, and presentations of their own breeding achievements.

On the second day, the Arboretum Director, Piotr Banaszczak, introduced the attendees to the history of the dendrological collection and led a tour showing the unique features of the garden, including the National Collection of the Genus Eleutherococcus, and invited everyone to view the exhibition halls of the forestry museum.

An additional attraction awaited the attendees at the sales point for ornamental trees and shrubs with documented origins from the Arboretum collection.
