Decorative elements of the perianth

Ribbons

One of the few features that in a natural manner decorated old variations of daylilies included three bright ribbons coming out of the throat, which, while going towards petals outline, divided them into two symmetrical parts. This feature, although its intensity has been reduced in significant part of modern variations, is often encountered in the form of more or less clear decorative element of the daylily flower (fig.81). Its strong presence at certain color combinations seems to be an important, and almost desirable decorative accent, in others (at most) it stabilizes and strengthens the impression of symmetrical structure of the perianth. There are many indications that genetic nature of this feature is closely related to the specie, because despite the enormity of breeding treatments in the world, and almost incalculable number of new plants produced each year, (at least in symbolic degree) it doesn’t let us to forget about it (fig.82).
