VI Hemerocallis Club Meeting Rybnik, July 16 – 17, 2022

This is already the second meeting in Rybnik, hosted by great flower lovers and exceptionally hospitable
hosts, Ewa and Tadeusz Kotula /the first one took place on July 7-8, 2017/. On Saturday, July 16 – after
the arrival and registration of participants /25 people arrived/ – a seminar dedicated to daylily
breeding and cultivation issues began at 5:00 PM.

On behalf of the Hosts, Tadeusz Kosmus welcomed the participants of the meeting.

At the beginning, the participants observed a moment of silence to honor the memory of Michał Jadczyk, a distinguished
member of the Hemerocallis Club and the daylily community, who passed away on July 1.

The seminar included the following presentations:

  • Tadeusz Kosmus “New fertilizers and products for use in daylily cultivation” The presenter discussed the composition and properties of the following preparations: Wapno Microflora, Bioilsa 6-5-13, and Carbohumic, as well as their enriching effect on the soil.
  •

  • Artur Jasiński raised the issue of daylily polyploidy in categories higher than tetraploids, drawing attention to the debatable value of methodologies using flow cytometry and the breeding stability of plants obtained through this method.
  •

  • Grażyna Świątkowska presented photos of the most interesting daylily seedlings from recent years of her breeding work.
  •

  • Tadeusz Kotula presented the evolution of breeding lines using examples of his own seedlings/varieties.

Following the presentations, it was time for questions and a discussion on the topics presented.

Traditionally, the day concluded with a gala dinner, which featured regional dishes and conversations, exchange of opinions, and experiences that lasted late into the night.

The second day began with a shared breakfast, after which everyone went to Tadeusz Kotula’s Maravilla breeding farm. The beautiful sunny day was perfect for immersing oneself among the fields of overgrown daylily clumps, contemplating individual seedlings and varieties; the speculations and admiration were endless. It was with great regret that we had to say goodbye to yet another ‘daylily festival’ and head back home.
